Neurok – The education of the future is here

Open education and new forms of collective value creation are advancing around the world today in the same way that industrial production advanced in the previous century, transforming our schools, our modes of education and our cultures. This is not the time to complain, but to question and do something, today, to accelerate innovation in the classroom.

In a previous conversation I told you about ASPgems’ commitment to Neurok, a new educational model and a different way of learning. We have been innovating in education and learning for a year now, and along the way we have discovered that, despite the fact that there is an extensive community of teachers who innovate every day in the classroom, and despite the fact that there is a great consensus on the need to innovate in the way we educate and teach, the reality is that implementing new ways of doing things is difficult and there is a lot of resistance to doing so. To make our vision a reality in schools, identify barriers and accelerate the necessary changes, we have recently held the first Open Space for Education, with the collaboration of the CADE center, and with the invaluable help of Chema Lázaro, a member of the faculty who received the National Education Award. The conference was held at the headquarters of WAYRA, with the format that is traditionally used for open spaces in free software. A day without a priori program. At the beginning, the objectives of the event were shared:

  1. Disseminate our work and our results around innovation in education
  2. Design strategies to accelerate innovation in our schools.
  3. To ensure that more and more teachers are working differently in our schools.

Based on these objectives, the attendees collectively decided which specific topics they wanted to dedicate the day to and different tracks were organized in parallel. The key to this open format is that each person can follow the topic that interests them the most and at the moment they feel they do not contribute anything or are not learning, they can change groups without anyone feeling offended. These are some of the selected topics:

  • The architecture of the classroom and its influence on education.
  • Emotional intelligence and creativity.
  • Emotional management in the classroom.
  • Gamification and learning
  • The hipster school.
  • Attention to diversity in the classroom.
  • Use of new technologies in the classroom.
  • Is the system the limit?
  • Evaluation of teachers.
  • What to do with motivated teachers?

You can see the conclusions and details of the event on the Neurok blog.
