In a world of accelerated change, as leaders we must be able to mobilize people by connecting with collective intelligence in our organizations and creating the necessary conditions for people to face new challenges and thrive in the new context.
To this end, it is necessary to mobilize others — outside and within our area of responsibility — to achieve understanding and agreement on what needs to be done and how to do it, to facilitate efforts, both individual and collective, to adapt to change, and to develop the new skills and habits necessary to adapt to new circumstances.
A new way of leading work teams
For all these reasons I like to talk about the new role of the leader as a social architect, capable of creating the conditions for the emergence of trust and commitments that facilitate cooperation, establish credibility, understand others, connect emotionally and develop the new network structures that make collective innovation possible. We need to be aware that unlike formal leadership from a position of authority, where our power is derived from position, when we act as social architects our power is derived from authenticity, credibility, and our ability to make decisions, and proactively act as leaders based on our passion, consistency, self-confidence, and added value to the community.
These are times to question.
The challenges we face are too complex to pretend that we have all the answers. It is enough to read the headlines of the press every day to see that our leaders do not have the answers. As leaders, our job is to ask the right questions, and create the right conditions for the answers to new challenges to be collective, that is, for the solution to emerge naturally as a result of the collaborative relationships established between all the people in the organization and between them and the outside, taking advantage of collective intelligence.
It’s time to question ourselves to learn how to lead our work teams
- What are the challenges of leadership in a complex, diverse, and uncertain world?
- How to build organizations capable of being predictable and efficient, and at the same time agile and flexible?
- What factors are driving the need for new leadership skills?
- How do we stay competitive in instability? What is the best way to prepare for the future?
- How to connect with collective intelligence in our organizations, how do social technologies impact leadership?
- How do changes affect us personally, how do we avoid getting caught up in our past experiences?
These are the questions that we need to address collectively. How Adaptive leaders We must keep the organization in a productive zone, out of the “comfort zone,” by asking the uncomfortable questions, making the tough decisions, and managing the inevitable conflicts, losses, and confusion associated with change. We share with you a recent presentation in which our CEO, José Cabrera, has addressed these issues from the perspective of making leadership and innovation everyone’s job.
